About Lisa Mentler
For as long as I can remember I have
had an appreciation for art. From a very young age Early American crafts were
performed in my home and I developed a love for all things old. My mother spent
many hours quilting, cross-stitching and performing crewel embroidery. She taught
me several of her talents and shared her artistry with me. Since then, we have
shared a common bond in our love for antiques and Early American art.
I have practiced various art forms
throughout my life and earned a B.F.A. from Kent State University. Recently I
began painting for fun and discovered an interest in theorem painting. Through
hours of research, reading, and practice I taught myself the many techniques
used in these paintings. I am inspired by reproducing antique theorems and also
by creating new designs based on past experiences and family history.
I am listed in the
Early American Life Magazine 2006 Directory of Traditional
American Crafts. This directory is a showcase for craftspeople who are committed
to preserving the skills used in creating crafts from this period in history.
Currently my time is divided between
painting and managing our family’s household. Our family consists of my wonderful
husband, our two beautiful and talented daughters, and several warm and fuzzy
pets. We reside in Avon, Ohio. Avon is a small town located near Lake Erie in
the historic, French Creek District, known for its antiques, unique shops,
family festivals and community events.
